valentine's day is on the 14th.

2.15.2012

Funny story.
I was at Target one day doing some browsing. I walk by this couple in the Valentine's section, and this is the conversation I heard:

Girl: I can't believe Valentine's is this weekend!
Guy: It is? I thought Valentine's was on the 14th?
Girl: Psssh. No. Valentine's is always on the second Sunday of February.
Guy: Oh. Are you sure? I thought Valentine's Day was always on the 14th..
Girl: ......

Me: I walked away as quick as I could because I was about to pee my pants from keeping my laugh in my body. And seriously, it's hard to stop from peeing these days.

Conclusion: People are stupid.

Anyway.....love. Right, that's what I was going to talk about here.

We had a really low key Valentine's Day.

Since Dale started being a legit accountant, I have been in charge of planning V day because it so conveniently falls in the middle of busy tax season.
Needless to say, I don't think we have ever really gone out on a real date for Valentine's day.
But it's actually been ok. We kind of like it that way.

I really tried to embarrass Dale this year. I found this idea here as I was surfing my Pinterest.
It's a little korny, but I wanted to do something easy and cheap.

I sent Dale to work with a little bag of presents and he could open one on the :14 of every hour.  Some were a little scandalous, and some were so cheesy I almost gagged doing them. But, in the end, he liked it and I liked doing it. It was a win/win.

I also made him this little sewn paper valentine card.
By the way, it was SO FUN to make and easier than pie. I used this tutorial

I think I might make cards like this for everything.
It was "adorable" as Dale called it.

Nothing beats homemade Valentines when you don't have anything else to do with your day.

Anyway, Dale came home, we had a fancy homemade dinner with mini bottles of sparkling cider, ate some red velvet cake from a bakery down the street, and we watched 30 minutes of Harry Potter before he zonked out, but not before we had a photo fail of red eyes and a weird closed mouth smile thing.

PLUS I got some chocolate covered strawberries and a date to FONDUE this weekend.
Do you have any idea how long I have wanted to go to a fondue restaurant?
I'll answer that for you and say FOREVER
I've never done fondue in my life.
This weekend is gonna be a game changer.

Hope you all had an overly lovey day with whoever it is you love.
And I hope you celebrated it yesterday. Not last Sunday.

Ps: Dale and I were texting one day and I got this little snippet from him.
Do any of you know someone named Gary?
Should I be worried?

True story.
Fess up Gary.

  3. Cute Valentine ideas! I wish I had more energy to be crafty. Maybe after our baby gets here, I will haha. We will see. Also just to let you know fondue restaurants are the bomb! We went to one in SLC called the Melting Pot and it was HEAVEN, a little pricey but totally worth it!

  9. Cheesy gifts are the only ones worth giving. AND the only ones that are truly hilarious. Way to be.
